A Dog's Perspective of a Zombie Apocalypse

The BF showed me this short film by Andres and Diego Meza-Valdes.  I'm into the whole zombie movie thing.  This includes the serious ones and the cheesy ones.  My all time favorite as of now is "28 Days Later." And I can't exclude "The Walking Dead," which is, I think, my favorite show ever.

Anyway, this short film takes on a different perspective during a zombie apocalypse...a dog's perspective.  And just like any good zombie movie, there's suprises, sad moments and happy parts.  I was very suprised at how well put together this film is.

And I do believe in a zombie apocalpyse, a dog's worst enemies are gonna be...cats...ones that have been feasting on zombie meat, because, we all know a cat would not hesitate to eat a human if hungry, no matter if it's the living dead.

We All Scream For Ice Cream

Well, you might not, but I certainly do!

This cold, dairy concoction is a party in my mouth every time.  It could be -51 degrees outside, and I'll still eat that stuff.  There isn't a flavor I don't like...wait.  I take it back.  I tried a wasabi flavor at Cold Stone Creamery once, and it was not pleasant.  Whoever thought of that flavor was horribly mistaken!  But other than that tasting accident, I don't usually turn down the stuff when offered.

My favorite flavor is a tie between strawberry and butter pecan (which I was told is an old person flavor, but whatevs).

Sometimes, I like to get creative with my ice cream.

Exhibit A.

Exhibit B (my favorite)

The first one is chocolate ice cream with pineapple.  The BF thought this sounded absolutely disgusting.  But I say, if you like orange and chocolate together, this'll be a great combo.

The second is vanilla ice cream atop sliced bananas, drizzled with caramel and topped with crushed graham crackers.  Holy guacamole, this was so good!  The graham crackers added this awesome texture that just made me want more.

Normally, when I eat ice cream (and, cough, if I use a bowl at all, cough) I'll fill the whole flippin bowl.  But, because I mixed in other stuff, I ended up using less ice cream.  So, technically, less ice cream cream means more healthy, right!?  I will take that silence as a yes.  I win!

Crunch Wrap Night!

I was so excited giddy to make one of my favorite Taco Bell menu items for dinner. I saw different variations all over the interwebs and decided to wing it and try to make them on my own.  The whole week, this is what I was counting down to...Crunch Wrap Night!

I need to start out by saying that I love Taco Bell.  It's cheap, Mexican and plain good.  I will admit, that before I started dating the BF, I wouldn't go there as much.  And if remember correctly, I don't think I had my first taste of TB until I was about 16 (gasp!).

I know that Taco Bell doesn't use the highest quality of ingredients.  I am fully aware that their meat is dehydrated and that they squirt out sour cream.  But I say ignorance is bliss, because my wallet and my belly are what control me.

Back to Crunch Wrap Night...

They were sooooooooooo good.  I wanted to eat more, but I shocked myself by sticking with one.  Mine had a completely different flavor, but I'm thinking it was better than, dare I say, Taco Bell.  Bottom line...I win.

My Ingredients:
the largest flour tortillas you can find
1 lb ground beef (the amount of crunch wraps will vary with how much meat you put in each wrap)
taco seasoning
chopped onions
refried beans (a BF request)
chopped tomatoes
shredded lettuce
small corn tortillas
nacho cheese

How I Made Them:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly spray the corn tortillas (however many you think you'll use) with cooking spray and place them on a baking sheet(s).  Bake for a couple of minutes, flipping them over, til they're lightly brown and crunchy.  Wrap the flour tortillas in tin foil and warm in the oven during this.

Cook the meat.  Add onions and taco seasoning.

Spread some of the refried beans in the center of a warmed flour tortilla.  Fill the tortilla with the beef, crunchy corn tortilla, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and taco sauce.  Fold the edges over the center (I still had a big opening in the center, so I used another tortilla that I cut to fit).  Carefully put in a hot pan sprayed with cooking spray.  Let it sit for about 2 minutes (or desired doneness) before turning the crunch wrap over.  It'll fall apart if you flip it too soon.  Once flipped, let it cook for another minute or two, or to your liking.

And that's how you make a Crunch Wrap!  And me making this will in no way affect my eating at Taco Bell. I mean, come'on...

Guilty Pleasure: Karmin

I'm completely in love with this band.  Ever since I heard their cover of "Look at Me Now," I've been a fan since.  They started out doing awesome covers.  Then they progressed to make their own music.  And I think the sweetest thing about these guys are that they're a couple and engaged.

I have Sirius XM radio and listen to The Morning Mashup and it seems that they play Karmin's "Brokenhearted" 400 times during my commute (to my delight).  It seems no matter what I'm doing, when a Karmin song pops on, I stop what I'm doing and jam out, white girl rap and all.  I think it's the white girl rap that gets me.  You gotta love the white girl raps :)

And now their new video for "Hello" is out...and I'm hooked.  Unfortunately, I can't post it since there's a whole copyright thing with Sony.  Whatevs.

Anyway, check out their YouTube.  Listen to the covers!!  It's kinda cool watching a band start out as Boston music students to being featured on the radio and having hit singles.

6 Years of Awesomeness

Eight years ago, when we were both working summer jobs at Cedar Point,

It only took us two years (*sarcasm) to finally act on our mutual attraction.  We've been two peas in a pod fighting pretend zombies ever since.

We owe alot of credit to Cedar Point and our friends.  We had mutual friends that worked at The Giant Wheel and that's how we were able to meet.  That ferris wheel will always have a soft spot in our hearts.

It's been an amazing 6 years together.  Here's to many more years of adventure and fun with my other half, my sidekick, my love.

Besides, how can I resist this guy?

Recipe: Shrimp Stir Fry

I love stir fries.  They're so quick and easy and you can't really mess it up.  I think the hardest part of this whole thing was finding the noodles!

Lately, I've been putting more seafood into the mix.  This time, I tried shrimp.  It was insanely good.  The BF even liked it, and before he never cared for shrimp.  Maybe it's because I only buy shrimp that's already deveined.  I think it was the "poop shute" that freaked him out.  Who am I kidding?  It kind of freaks me out too!

This recipe is based off one from Jamie Oliver.  I tweaked it quite a bit.  The recipe is really easy to play with.  I didn't really measure anything out.  I knew what kind of flavors I liked, so I went from there.

Shrimp Stir Fry
ginger, grated (I used ginger powder)
garlic, chopped (I used minced garlic)
red chile pepper, finely sliced
fresh cilantro, chopped
peanut or vegetable oil
1 lb shrimp (I used frozen and did a quick thaw)
2 spoonfuls of Chinese five-spice powder
about 2 tsp cornstarch
baby corn
handful of snow peas
about 1/4 c soy sauce
little bit of teriyaki sauce and sriracha (personal preference)
juice from 1 lime
spoonful of honey
about 1 tsp sesame oil
handful of frozen peas
about 14 oz pkg of rice sticks or vermicelli
handful of beansprouts

Preheat a wok or large pan on high heat.  Once it's really hot, add a lug or two of the peanut or veggie oil and swirl it around.  Stir in the cilantro, ginger, garlic, chile pepper, shrimp and five-spice powder, and fry for about a minute.  Add the cornstarch, baby corn, and snow peas and give them a good toss and stir fry another minute.  Stir in the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, sriracha, lime juice, honey, sesame oil and the frozen peas.

Add the rice sticks to a boiling pot of water.  I used a wooden spoon to break up the noodles in the water.  Cook for 2 minutes, no longer!  Drain.  Once the shrimp was fully cooked, I stirred the noodles into the shrimp and veggie mix.  If you want to serve the shrimp on top of the noodles, just put a spoonful of the liquid the noodles cooked in, into the pan with the shrimp and cook until the shrimp is done and the peas are thawed.

Before serving, I sprinkled the bean sprouts and cilantro on top.

Nom, noms!!

27th Birthday Recap

I think this last birthday will be one of the most memorable.  By looking at the some of the pictures, you'd think the birthday was for a 7 year old boy, but nope, it was for a 27 year old...

I have to give amazing credit to my BF.  He payed attention to things that I've talked about or showed him throughout the year and was on point.  Honey, if you're reading, I love you!

Now, before you continue on, I have to warn you, alot of the pictures were within minutes of me waking up.  That means, no makeup (I have blemishes all over my face), puffy eyes, and oily hair.  Remember, you were warned!

Anyway, this is how my birthday morning went, from as soon as I woke up.

I woke up to a note on the door for "Agent 27."  My mission, if I chose to accept, was to go through a laser security system.  Once out of that, there was another note waiting for "Agent 27" beside a "bomb disposal kit."  My next mission was to defuse a "bomb" that was attached to a box.  Once diffused, Agent 27 is free to have whatever was inside the box.

Contents included:
- a Where's Waldo card, which I completely loved and think is the best card EVER
- Hairbo Gummy Bears
- box of animal crackers
- Hershey Cookies n Cream bar
- Spam (which was pretty funny)
- Goldfish crackers
- Marvel activity book
- Korean culture book
- Korean language book
- Korean curse word book (looking forward to that)
- and the New iPad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The iPad I was not expecting at all.  I kept saying that's what I wanted knowing I really wasn't going to get it.  I was in shock when I saw the box (as you can kinda see in the picture).  The rest of the morning involved me playing with my new toy.

Going through the lasers and the Agent 27 stuff were so much fun.  It's totally suitable for a little boy...or for a gal that's in her late twenties...

The rest of the day was spent shopping (tax free week in Maryland!), having a chill dinner at Pei Wei (which I've always wanted to go to), and cake!

And this little guy couldn't wait to get into the paper and boxes.  He also tried to take down the lasers.  We can't have anything around this place without Monkey trying to tear it up.
